This booklet, developed under the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) and specifically Pillar 2 – Transport, explores how Interreg programmes have integrated the concept of “Green and Smart Ports”, a flagship initiative aimed at creating more sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced port systems. Combining environmental responsibility with innovation and digitalisation, this approach recognizes the strategic role of ports in connectivity and economic growth. Since macro-regional strategies lack dedicated EU funding, the alignment of existing resources and the operational role of Interreg are crucial to turning priorities into concrete actions. Supported by the StEP project (financed by Interreg IPA ADRION), this study highlights progress in embedding EUSAIR priorities and the need for continuous monitoring to advance a more connected, sustainable, and innovative Adriatic-Ionian Region.
